Already a few weeks on the road in the Peugeot 508SW. For me now the 6th Peugeot. The 307 and 407 Peugeot models I did not like. The latest series that, however, hence a renewed acquaintance with Peugeot. The experiences have been positive. What is striking is the beautiful and good build quality (hiss and rattle-free) and the spacious interior with comfortable sitting chairs. In it, the car certainly does not include for example an Insignia, Mondeo or Passat.
Review the other car of the same type defines how good the car is. Then I have little to add, and this review gives a good representation of the pluses and the minuses. Mileage is with me at about 1:13 in mainly use on the highway (130-140 km / h). The 120hp do just fine here in the Netherlands. In the mountains abroad or a 1575kg trailer weight you will probably run into limitations. The accelaratie is not top but once up to speed, the car well along in traffic probably also due to the relatively low weight of the Peugeot. The car has good handling and, for this size car, tight control where the car does not feel clumsy. The tires (Michelin) pay fine. Meanwhile, the car rides Continental winter tires which incidentally noticed that the car is more sensitive to wind. A afrader for this car so the TS830.
Finally, the gear box. After reading tests and driving impressions you are probably put off by the negative reviews. Remember that these are somewhat exaggerated. If you want to be you should not take this gearbox (and the VTI) first road at every stoplight. In normal use, however, is good to live and you are not slower than a manual version. The advantage is that manual switch (control) and fully automatic control work together and to make a choice in advance do this.

The blackberry works great with Bluetooth via the radio. To scroll through the list of addresses might be a bit cumbersome. It always starts with the letter A. If you have many numbers in the phone which takes a relatively long time. The navigation works well and the maps are pretty up to date.
The car also has many menus related settings. This is used too little to operate blindly. For this, did you really just need the instruction booklet. On previous cars usually managed without it.
The car also has a sporting (sport is too big a word) program that the performance is quite reasonable. Had which is not yet in the holes in the beginning. A star so there for the performance.
Further falls while driving at how quiet and spacious car. Comfortable and pleasant. This remains at higher speed as which relaxed driving possible. Legroom front and rear are fine. The trunk is also quite large although in terms of load and form not as practical as our (Swedish) station.
Consumption has fallen to just over 1:15 (75% highway) where it is noted that the consumption above 125 km / h increases considerably, and below just strong ending for every kilometer that goes off. 125 So keep. Meters and counters are functioning anyway remarkably precise.
Hassle-II (15,800 km)No specialties. Consumption is located at the 1: 16.5. No oil at having to fill up to now. Everything works fine.
Hassle-III (31 400 km)Meanwhile already passed the 30 000 km. Until now, no problems. A short time ago small amount of oil (less than half a liter) refilled. Gasoline consumption is still at 1:16. No rattles or defects. All in all a good car so. 1st maintenance (minor service work; 30 000 km) is planned.
towards the 60,000 km (56,500 km)Meanwhile being driven almost exclusively highway by car. Consumption is approximately 1:17 (lots of 100 km / h on sections of the route). About the car to complain about. There have been no shortcomings and the car is free of rattles and everything functions as it should. The future is going to be driven quite a lot. See if the good experiences with the car remain.

112,000 km (112,000 km)Not much to report. The car is error, and rattle-free. Oil is imperceptible. Fuel consumption is between 1:16 to 1:17. Recently had a small break loss and further the windshield has a decent star. That is refreshing. The Michelin tires (1st set) adhere excellent.
130.000 km (130.000 km)Car works excellent. Prima comfort.Geen complaints. Everything cracking and rattle-free. Gasoline and oil is still the same. Soon the 4th maintenance.
First problem (147.000 km)first had trouble with the car: the Lambda probe was broken. Car hit the occasional time off and walked sometimes irregular. Meanwhile restored, although the catalyst is also now in a fault state and is being replaced. At 135000 km was carried out the 4th service. There were no details.
166 000 km (166,000 km)Remains a very good car the Peugeot. No beatings, no defects other than the replacement Lambda sensor and catalytic converter. At 149 000 km, the car has first been given a new set of summer tires (Kleber Dynaxer) which also fine comply. The old Michelin tires were really after 100000km on. Costs for maintenance of the car just below the norm, fuel slightly above the norm. each one percent otherwise. All in all a must this car. The farewell, however, is approaching. Interior
It is smoothing used to, but the bells are just in the middle. Anyway it seems to be a bit of French. The comfort levels are high everywhere pockets and flaps and many mirror work. Baking space, especially when you only have three seats in it.
The finish is fine to mention even though it all is much more plastic, but I do know from the French. But the comfort is nothing to say.
Performance
The car goes smoothly windscreen, there is a 2.2 engine which besides some oil also desire some fuel. below 10 liters per hundred is difficult .. But you can refill the oil and the engine is relatively quiet.
All in all it is a great family car.
UPDATE Feb 2012
The interior lights in the dashboard found a permanent night service .. As a result, much of the information displays deteriorating visibly. So I will (do it yourself rather) again have to undertake a major dashboard surgery to repair everything.
PROBLEMS (145.000 km)
Oil I do not, I do not like it, but 'they' say that it is normal, is also in the book .. The consumption is not too high so I'm at peace with it. Just neat track then there is nothing wrong.
The engine makes a dieselend sound when starting and when it's cold, I have also already read elsewhere, garage owners know there apparently with no counsel (www.problemcar.nl) and I will therefore not do anything. Inside you hear it, I think it's best.
The wheels wear crooked. I do not quite, but this is typical of the model, apparently a concession handling .. That will be best, but I also think that a flaw in the design. Nevertheless, I leave it, I change gear from back to front, and because I did not ride as much per year (10 k) but will suddenly come to tires in two years. That 'relative' pales into insignificance.
For the rest is the construction of a shocking feeling on the coupling. I have no explanation for it, but the connection falters a moment so this will be .. Well, now has shown that this is not normal. My wife called me with the news that he was no longer windshield and that smoke was coming from under the hood .. Then you fear as a convenient techie worst .. But it turned out, the clutch plates were firmly beaten and had to since a new one .
But that was only the second major thing
first major thing:
Throttle body to his granny, which happened at around 110,000. With a second-hand (and then re-programming of the keys ..) we were just under 1000 ready.
The clutch plates; well, as I said, the chatter in the clutch was not good. The costs here as well as totaled just under 1,000.
Smaller things:
- tires do not last for long, 15,000 to 20,000 km. (after 40 k everything twice changed antennae that was for the last round maybe some fast, but they go fast)
- Steering by weight heavily taxed and therefore expensive repairs
- clattering noise continues, it is with thicker oil (15W40 synth) consumption "which" less.
It remains a costly driving iron, comfortable but thirsty (size and weight) and expensive to maintain (weight).
UPDATE issues (145k / Feb 2012)
As mentioned above have changed all four tires although not all necessary. Thereby decided to impose a narrower band (205 instead of 215) it.
I feel therewith dramatically improved the lopsided wear. The wear pattern just looks good.
After the winter, the last day, the woman phoned the car did not start more .. Father removed the battery to charge (which was a very bad idea) on. Stranded (199.000 km)
Update since the last time;
As I reported earlier, this car might be a nice car to have, but it is also an expensive car. A lot of maintenance required. I got lucky two right hands so it saves a lot of money, but all in all it is expensive.
I have accounts on nageslagen and it looks as though it costs about 5000 euros per year entails. Which is the half of fuel (12 kilometers K) and the other half maintenance and insurance on road tax (For maintenance I do a lot ourselves!).
The car was driven in 2014 from Austria to the Netherlands. That went on just fine, but on the way there is an exhaust failure came in. This has caused a lot of uncertainty, but we have just come home.
The intervening period until the holiday was normal. An occasional failure (which is reset, particularly a device bought).
Just before the holidays I drove it and I noticed that the power which was less. The woman then went with them on vacation to northern france and reported serious failures.
I drove to it over the weekend and have established (through acquaintances) that the valves of cylinder one dead / dying. Overhaul so.
The car, however, 12 years old .. not worth a button and yes .. it is not m.
What led to this failure?
I have only one answer to a design flaw. The car always characterized by the diesel sound (hydraulic tappets). If you search on the Internet (YouTube) find movies was this. These valves are no longer held. They are simply worn by poor plungers. There it should be noted that the car by my wife gets a lot to endure many short pieces. Of course that does not help.
