After having driven over 20,000 km it seemed time to write a review about our Swede. From my previous car I have indeed written a review and I use the reviews on this site also to make their own choice.
Purchase:
Our previous car (Opel Vectra 1.6) had to be replaced, in addition, we were driving more kilometers per year (about 40,000) and diesel was not a luxury.
Why Volvo S60? I've always had a thing for the Volvo brand, I find it nice cars and find the S60 actually one of the most beautiful models. The S60 can also keep up well in appearance with new cars. The interior also looks good. Anyway, that's all subjective.
We found this car at a dealership in the middle of the country, after a long test drive, we were quickly convinced. Wonderful car! Tasty engine many pit also a world of difference compared to our Opel which was not to burn, comfortable seats and good handling. In addition, the maintenance history was known, that gave me a good feeling.
It is a luxury version: leather, navigation, heated seats, CD changer (HU803) (no MP3 ...), cruise control, 17 "wheels, etc.
After 20,000 km:
We have the car a half years and we more than 20,000 km. Immediately after purchase, we replaced the tires, just necessary. We have to align the car directly.
After the first few weeks gave the car a fault in the battery. One called the roadside, revealed a problem with the alternator. This we replaced, cost around € 350.
Three weeks ago, we passed the 20,000 km (mileage 232,000). We therefore carry just a big turn. It turned out that the ball joints were worn (MOT) and the upper engine mount was broken. Otherwise everything was in order. So we have replaced the ball joints and engine support in addition to regular business (all filters, fluids, update, air purification and cleaning of the braking system). costs were just under a thousand euros. I noticed quite disappointing, but I'm glad that everything else is in order. In total, I think better than expected costs, you keep always in mind that there is a cost when you buy a new car in 2002.
Problems / cost so far:
- 4x new tires and alignment (+/- € 800.00)
- New alternator (€ 350.00)
- Large turn (220,000 km turn according to the schedule) + repairs to ball joint and motor support (+ / - € 990.00)
Our Volvo is now ready for the next 20,000 km! Then we again face a little turn and I will give an update on the car.
Starter and fat breakdown (234 278 km)
What a bad luck. It started with a big crack in the windshield. Suddenly out of nowhere right through the field of view, no fun. We have liability insurance, so we have to pay it yourself (which is our choice, so private debt). First called with the glass service company with those annoying commercials (I will not mention any names ...) as the minimum 540 euros and would cost up to 760 euros. Yet even here called another famous glass specialist, since the cost 385 euros. Where the difference comes from I do not know, but I chose option two.
Less than a week later, a large dent and scratch on the rear door and the offender obviously has no note left under the wiper. That again is going to cost money.
Third time's the charm. Yesterday did not start the Volvo. Heard in contact mode III only a 'click' It proved to be the starter, which we have substituted for 200 euros.
Very annoying everyone, but in all honesty only the third case really has to do with the vehicle technology and is therefore very relevant to this review and my review of the Volvo. Though it is alarming how expensive can be a windshield if not a little further calls. The starter breaks at 230,000 km seems in itself a very strange thing, I will not alter the assessment. The car also like just very good, drives perfect and especially the seats are particularly comfortable.
I will continue to keep up nicely this review (though I do hope that we are now as ready)
APK (241 085 km)
We are now again some weeks and a few thousand kilometers away, still very satisfied with the Swede. It remains a joy to drive. Now had some time colleagues and friends in the car and they all are surprised that the car is 12 years old, most compliments go to the seats.
Dent and scratches are addressed, the car looks back tighter. Soon I will even add some photos to the review.
This week, the S60 smoothly passed the MOT, also did not expect anything else.
The lock of the door right behind does not work properly, must be replaced. Sometimes the door will not be opened and closed by remote control. That still will cost about 300 euros, maybe repaired at the next turn of about 10,000 km. There is after all no one back of the car. By the way, seems to be more common in the S60 and V70 this year.
All in all I'm still happy with the car, it's wonderful ride.
Service turn (253,000 km)
We're 20,000 km further since the last regular service, it is time to visit the Volvo garage.
This time decided to go along with the official dealer. The conclusion of the inspection is that these repairs must be performed:
- brake discs / pads replaced back.
- Replace brake fluid
- tie rod arms inside must be replaced (MOT)
- also replace camshaft seal
- seal oil pump
- Replace door lock right (door was broken for a long time)
In all these repairs cost about 1400 euros. No matter so cheap, but yes we have therefore already 20,000 km sit on.
I have decided to put down the appreciation of 'costs' at the basis of these costs and the previous repairs. Owning a Volvo S60 D5 is clearly not a cheap affair.
Soon we will make an appointment to carry out the repairs, go over the price we still negotiate ... as
we have the car now than a year and have more than 40,000 km in luxury and comfort. Consumption also does not disappoint and comes out to about 1 in 16. The maintenance costs are as already defined above, or against. Yet it would be no reason for us not to buy this car. With this mileage should wear and therefore maintenance hear. Am wondering if we can get what the price. I will update this review when I hear more about this.
Farewell, legal nightmare and (briefly) terugke (273,000 km)
There is a lot has happened in the last period. The S60 actually liked fine, we had the necessary repairs behind and mileage shots been a while under the Swede by. But due to the family it was time to start looking for a drive and a V70 had while our preference. Do not get me wrong trunk of a S60 was big for a stroller and all its clutter, it's the size of the boot that makes it difficult. The luggage is just not easily accessible.
After a long search (partly online) ended up with Polar Cars in Giessen (NB). Since fell in love with a black V70 Sport edition from 2007 with nearly 2 tons on the counter. Car came from Belgium and was complete history including Car Pass (Belgian NAP), i never saw but ...
Long story short, the counter turned out to be eventually reversed and there were also technical problems to light. Polar Cars wanted after many (often unanswered) calls or destroy the purchase and refund the purchase price, but then there was silence ... That was in March 2015, now it's July and we have a lot of legal fees, registered letters, bailiffs and a summons on and we have finally the purchase price and our S60 back.
In the meantime, I have a lot of mileage with our second car, an Opel Corsa (here I will also keep a review going) drove a car that was actually meant for short trips and errands. The S60 is therefore already around the corner and I can tell you that I am very happy about it. What a nice car is! We try to do again looking for a V70, this time at Bovag companies etc ...
Auto traded again, this time for good. (275,000 km)
We have found a new car. A black V70 from 2009 (so the newer model) slightly above our target price, but then you have some. It is a V70 2.4d Momentum in black with a few nice extras (including heated seats and beautiful 18 inch rims Volvo). I will also write a review of keeping
my judgment about the S60 remains the same. It's a very nice car, which is really designed to feed kilometers and that he therefore does very good and comfortable. I would'm really recommend it to anyone who makes more than 25,000 (particularly highway) mileage. The purchase price is relatively low and you get a lot of car for your money. Only negatives are the inconvenient accessible luggage and the cost of maintenance, this maintenance is crucial if you are driving a lot! But if I have the stories to the cost of this great Swede me hear from friends, colleagues and family often much younger than cars are still that bad
