When the cows are high grazing in the mountains you can count on good weather we were told

Italy we all know Rome and Milan, the country's vespa & Vino's, the pizzas & pastas and Amori & arrivederci. But I'll take you to a whole other side of this amazingly beautiful country. We discover Livigno and I'll show you why you should go there! Do you like adrenaline, looking up and push boundaries and being active in the outdoors? Then Livigno is fixed also a destination for you!

Livigno

Livigno is located in the Lombardy region and is a municipality in the province of Sondrio. From the capital Milan is more than 3 hours before you get to your destination. The route to it is beautiful, you drive a section along the lake, where incidentally you do not see very much because you often drive through tunnels. When you leave the highway and drive on quieter roads you see only what beautiful area you drive. The mountains seem to be transformed into lunar landscapes with all sorts of different colors.

This village, which lies exactly in between two mountains, is also called the sports mecca of Italy. It has about 6,000 inhabitants, in the summer there are some 400,000 guests who stay there in the winter, this number even 1 million! This beautiful village situated at 1816 meters altitude and there are plenty of athletes who specifically seek this village to train at altitude. In winter, ski, snowboard freeride fanatics but also their hearts and go all out on the slopes. In the summer months, a lot of mountain biking, cycling, running and done suppen. No season will disappoint you!

The sprawling village is located between two mountains. The sprawling village is situated between two mountain ranges in. When the cows are high grazing in the mountains you can count on good weather we were told. We drove the beautiful mountains, the grass looked past us gigs, the sun was high in the sky ... and the cows were high in the mountains! That could only mean good things for these four days in Livigno!

Larix Park

Climbing and sliding into ancient trees? Si, this may in Livigno. Just outside the center of the village is an old larch. A climbing festival  for young and old! After our helmet is set up and all bondage is drawn tight, we are told how this climbing park can survive best. The code word is to: secure! Make sure you are always secured and then all will be well. Egg I think ... but then when I was still on the ground. Once climbed up beep I do something else. Secretly quite high and say my legs now might seem even most like pasta al dente .

TO DO! Climbing in the Larix Park
But, after some obstacles I get confident and unwise ... lol. What is this cool! The climbing does a great appeal to you or not present heights, motor skills, perseverance and confidence. We start with the green route and it appears to do good, confident I dare quite the orange route. Halfway through I still think ... "Yoh, that black route must I also just do it!" But it turns out that the route takes half a turn ... There appears to be a Freefall be. I still cry very loudly, "No, I really do not!" But apparently there still lies a brave dodo in me and before I know it I dare the leap of faith! Super cool, this is really pushing limits! I'm shaking still about ten minutes after all the adrenaline pumping through my body ... but hey I DID IT !!!

E-biking through the mountains

In winter, this beautiful village is the resort of choice. But when the snow melts and the green blades of grass again show under the last piles of snow, you can perform an entire activity other than skiing on the mountains. How about biking through the mountains? We did the bike tour at Mottolino . The beauty is that they also e-bikes hiring. So you always on the mountain! Together with a guide you can take a tour of this beautiful area for 54.00 euros. An e-bike is quickly accustomed, after the tour you do not want to be without. On flat paths you can turn off the power assist. But you go up a mountain, you can switch between sport and turbo, so you still fine to reach the summit within a few revolutions. Mottolino gives you the choice of 13 tracks, each level tastes. The tours take you through the beautiful trails through the mountains, past waterfalls, over narrow paths. Pure pleasure!

At the end of our bike tour we arrive at Tea Da Memi , highly recommended to enjoy a delicious lunch and homemade limoncello! Ask certainly one of the owners a small tour of this beautiful house that currently most resembles a house of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The view here is unprecedented, you eat between donkeys and a tranquility reigns. In the house, the time has literally stood still! Everywhere you see wooden furniture, checkered tablecloths and small wooden cribs. It's even possible to spend the night, so what you want to hear!

Livigno has an artificial lake, Lago di Livigno have the Livognezen signed a deal in 1963 with Switzerland, they would create a lake and Switzerland would generate energy and then Livigno would get free electricity. Great deal, but what also is a plus at this lake: you can practice numerous water sports. Swimming is prohibited, but suppen, kayaking and canoeing certainly are possible. SUP Stand Up Paddle pen ... and stand up can still be quite difficult. If you fall into the water, you are right nice wake: the meltwater comes together here. From the village it is a half hour walk to the lake, but the walk is well worth it. You walk through the forest and along the edge of the lake, the view is amazing! Since this summer, a floating wooden raft built with uberchille lounge chairs. Lovely to relax after your water activity and enjoy all the beauty around you. To rent a SUP you 5.00 euros per half hour lost and 30.00 euros for half a day.

The sparrows fell from the rooftops, everyone walked in shorts and a thick layer of sunscreen. But hey, Livigno was on this day, August 26, held the 36th edition of the Trofeo delle Contrade '. This is a traditional cross-country race held in a very special way IN the shopping streets of the village. How? The snow has been treated in a special way because it had to remain well preserved until August from the winter season. They have put the snow in a large meadow and covered including special geotextile that reflects the sun's rays. Mission accomplished! That afternoon so is the village full of snow, which is a separate sensation. There is a welcoming atmosphere: the snowballs fly around your ears, apres ski music is loud and the Aperol gushes.

Shopping? SI! Bélastingvrijshoppen ?? SI SI SI !!! The village is well hidden among the Alps, and before the tunnel was built next to Lago di Livigno, it was quite a challenge to get there. To ensure that this area was inhabited, it was a tax free status. So great for the tourists now! You'll find some 250 stores of anything and everything: sports shops, perfumeries, shoe shops, eyeglass cases, jewelery and of course affairs where you can taste local products and can take it to the Netherlands. And it really saves in the price. So I bought a perfume that I pay 52 euros in the Netherlands and here I paid 34 euros.

These four days in this beautiful hidden village were fantastic. Livigno is fortunately not yet trampled by hordes of tourists and hopefully it will stay that way. Here you can enjoy delicious Italian cuisine but you have the idea that sometimes is in Austria. Life is quiet and peaceful, which is also the atmosphere that exudes the village. Us knows us. There are no quick and smooth Italians necks twist and just keep calling 'Chiao bella! " well, for your confidence might be getting used to this idyllic Italian village. But if you get the chance to explore this wonderful area, both in summer and in winter it is in one word: Bellissimo!
